Project Background

This project was originally planned by New Leaf CEO Jennifer Case in 2012.  The project's objectives: scale-up biodiesel production while lowering carbon-intensity.  Central to reduced carbon intensity of biodiesel production is use of natural gas-fired cogeneration.  See the 2012 Grant Application for further description of the original project.

CEC grant was awarded to New Leaf Biofuel in 2013.
In preparation for the microturbines, natural gas supply lines were added in 2013 (see “2013 Floor Plans”).

Changes in the national market for New Leaf's biodiesel product forced the project to be placed on hold for 2014. Installation of cogeneration, heat recovery and associated electrical prerequisites will be completed in 2015.
